18th Carnoustie - Venue 2007 "Open"

Carnoustie

Location

There has been golf at Carnoustie since the 1500’s with the present course having been redesigned over the years by legends such as Old Tom Morris, James Braid, and a local man, James Wright, whose redesign of the final 3 holes provided what are widely regarded as the toughest finishing holes in golf.

No wonder that this Championship course, due to host its 7th Open in 2007, is regarded as one of the toughest on the Open rota.   Don’t be fooled at the lack of wind on the 1st Tee, as it’s just waiting for you to start your round.  This is a beautifully crafted course, a thinker’s course, where every hole presents a challenge. Raise your game and you could be rewarded, plan badly and a 10 awaits your card.  Just ask Jean Van De Velde who led The Open by 3 shots as he stood on the 18th Tee but who sadly went home without the famous claret jug.

There are many great holes on this course.  The par 5 6th called “long” measuring 520 yards, which is included in the list of the top 100 holes ever.  The 15th, 16th and 17th are described as the very best closing holes in world golf.  Whatever you do, you must pit your wits against this course.  Whatever, the outcome, your friends and clients will leave with a truly unforgettable memory, which they will talk about for years to come.
